LEATHER FLOORS AND WALLS TRIVIA

• Leather has been used for centuries in Europe and Asia; it was one of the first flooring materials used as caveman would stitch leather hides together to warm up their floors.

• In the 12th and 13th century, leather tiles warmed the floors of stone houses, castles, and churches in Europe.

The Spanish….used leather for their walls because, as they treated it, they obtained rich and sumptuous effects in interior decoration….” Exerpt from “What shall we do with our walls?” by Clarence Cook, New York: 1880

• One of the rooms in the Governor's Mansion in Williamsburg, VA is
covered in embossed and gilded leather. It's fabulous! Stood up for a
couple hundred years in a moderately humid climate and it's still
fabulous.

• The Crescent Club in Dallas boasts a dance floor made from leather tiles!

• The best leather tiles are made from a special, thick and tough part of the hide from cows and buffalos located along their dorsal spine. This makes the product very expensive – yet it has less resilience and more moisture absorption than our tiles.
